Equipment was sent recently to Guam for the "Trieste" dives to great depths. 4 Strobes (100 WS) and 2 cameras all tested to 24,000 psi for 24 hours. Andy Rechnitzer and Jacques Picard [Piccard] and [Don] Walsh were doing the work at Guam under the N.E.L. sponsorship.
The eye photography is going fine. Dr. Rees has asked me to make an equipment to use at the Deaconess Hospital. This is under way. Pete Barato [?] is helping iththe project. We hope this item will be useful for medical work.
A 1000 WS pinger of bout 1000 cycle pulse width is being finished by Gary Hayward for W.H.O.I. 2307 [or: 2370?] job no EG&G. The device can operate at one flash ping [last word crossed out] thump per second.
Jan. 18, 1960
Gary Hayword and I took the "Tin Pan" sonar to W.H.O.I. last night [last 2 words crossed out] yesterday to install it on the Atlantis for a sea test. Mary Lou [Edgerton] went along for the Ride. She stayed with Julian & Marie Padowiez family at Pocasset LO.38802 [last word underlined]
The equipment has a 18" diam al. disc enver [?] with a 4KV 16x10 mfd capacitor at 1 per sec.
The sparker at WHOI has 12 mfd at 15KV. 1344 watt sec.
