[image should be rotated to left] Edgerton conducted a study of the mechanical processess for the WInchester Repeating Arms Company of New Haven, Connecticut. This image was taken in the Winchester Shot Tower. Featured in Edgerton's book Flash!, p. 128, the caption notes: "Molten lead congealing into shot as it falls. Out-of-focus reflections of the light source on the drops produce the array of halos." In Stopping Time, Gus Kayafas writes: "Edgerton was asked to photograph shot-making processes to help the manufacturers analyze the efficiency of their machinery and to reveal what actually occurs at moments too fast for the eye to see and understand. Here, molten lead drips through the holes of a die, solififying into shot as it falls." (p. 66).
