Description: (curated)

To study microscopic aquatic organisms, like these freshwater copepods, Edgerton used shadow photography – he placed a drip of water directly on the unexposed film and flashed a strobe to capture a silhouette of the creature. Following standard scientific practice, Edgerton was careful to note all of the variables, like exposure time and type of film, in this experiment.
