This photograph (likely taken in 1938) reveals that the ball velocity is 225 feet per second; the club velocity before impact, 166 feet per second; after impact, 114 feet per second. (See "Flash! This photo is misidentified. It is actually Bobby Jones swinging a driver (see FLASH, p. 61). The famous photo of Densmore Shute Bends the Shaft is actually HEE-NC-38001 (FLASH, p. 69).
