Description: (curated)

The gun took its own picture as the explosion of the bullet being fired triggered the microphone, visible in the foreground, that released the flash. The bullet is barely out of the muzzle, still hidden in the massive volume of smoke escaping from the gun. This high-speed photograph was taken in 1936. (from "Stopping Time" (1987), pp. 120--1). I wonder how much the loss of gases escaping around the revolver diminish the speed of the bullet (muzzle velocity.)
