Horton Smith (golfer) was here June 23 (Wed) for photography of swing. Shots at 100/see and single flash were made.
I gave a talk June 28 evening to the people attending the food conference sponsored by the biological department.
Friday June 30 I left early for Springfield Mass to see people at the armory about high-speed photography. Mr. Robert Le Doux is the photographer. Mr. Wood the metalurgist was interested and spent considerable time discussing the different methods of H.S. photography. I met Mr. Gowand who is responsible for the new automative rifle that the U.S. Army has adopted. One of these may be brought here for test with high speed photography.
I was lead to believe that the Springfield Armory wishes to purchase a high-speed motion-picture camera and also a single flash 10-6 second light for bullet photography.
Friday aft. June 30 I went to Pittsfield and saw the Gen. Elect. C. about condenses. I had 8 defective condenses with me. 7 of these were opened. 5 had breakdown within one turn of the connecting taps! Only one of the condenses showed any effect of burning at the ( ) of tap and foil. The G.E. will replace these with exp. units for test in the circuit. They were surprised that the ( ) resulted at 2000 volts. on 440 volt condense. These cord breakdown on dc at 4000 - 5000 volts. the service in the flash apparatus is not severe as the discharge is not oscillatory and is infrequent.
I spent Saturday and Sunday with Nottinghams on lake George Hatchett Island. Returned home last night.
